*Emperor of Heaven's Special Pill to Tonify the Heart (tian wang bu xin dan)

Pattern: Yin deficiency of the Heart and Kidneys.

Indications: Irritability, palpitations with anxiety, fatigue, insomnia with very restless sleep, inability to think or concentrate for even short periods of time, nocturnal emissions, forgetfulness, dry stools, a red tongue with little coating, and a thin, rapid pulse. There may also be sores of the mouth and sores of the tongue, low-grade fever, and night sweats.

This formula and Restore the Spleen Decoction (gui pi tang) are both used in treating conditions marked by insomnia, palpitations, and forgetfulness.

However, the latter formula is indicated for concurrent Qi and blood deficiency marked by reduced appetite, loose stools, a pale tongue, and a thin, frail pulse.

This formula is for blood and Yin deficiency with irritability, a red tongue with little coating, and a thin, rapid pulse.
