Asthma

Pattern: Vacuity of the Lung.

Key symptoms: Shortness of breath, feeble voice, weak forceless coughing and wheezing, spontaneous sweating, sensitivity to draught, thin runny phlegm.

Formula: Sheng mai Yin (Replenish Pulse Pills) and Bu fei tang (Tonify the Lung Decoction) Also Known As: Reinforce the Lung Decoction and Astragalus and Aster Combination.

Treatment method: Supplement the Lung, boost Qi and calm wheezing.

Acupuncture: UB13, fei shu, M-BW-1b ding chuan, UB43 gao huang shu, Lung-9 tai yuan.

Formula Ingredients:

Sheng mai san: Ren shen (Radix Ginseng), Mai men dong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Wu wei zi (Fructus Schisandrae)

Bu fei tang: Ren shen (Radix Ginseng), Huang Qi (Radix Astragali), Shu di huang (Radix Rehmanniae preparata), Wu wei zi (Fructus Schisandrae) , Zi wan (Radix Asteris), Sang bai pi (Cortex Mori)

Modifications: For vacuity of Lung Qi is predominant, add Shan yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Zhi gan cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae preparata)For vacuity of Lung Yin is predominant, add Bei sha shen (Radix Glehniae), Chuan bei mu (Bulbus fritillariae cirrhosae), huang jing.
