Common cold

Pattern: Invasion of wind heat

Key symptoms: Slight cold, more fever, perspiration, dry swollen throat, thirst, yellow sputum or nasal discharge. Thin yellow coating, floating rapid pulse. 

Formula: Yin Qiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder)

Treatment method: Dispel wind, clear heat, resolve the exterior

Acupuncture: Lung-5 chi ze, Large Intestine-11 qu chi, UB12 feng men, GB20 feng chi, Large Intestine-4 he gu, DU14 da zhui, SJ5 wai guan

Formula Ingredients: Jin Yin hua (Flos Lonicerae), Lian qiao (Fructus Forsythia), Jie geng (Radix Platycodi), Niu bang zi (Fructus Arctii), Bo he (Herba Menthae), Dan dou chi (Semen Sojae preparatum), Jing jie (Herba Schizonepetae), Dan zhu ye (Herba Lophatheri), Xian lu gen, Gan cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae)

Modifications: Severe headache: add Sang ye (Folium Mori), Ju hua (Flos chrysanthemi)

For coughing with excessive phlegm, add Zhe bei mu (Bulbus Fritillariae thunbergii), Qian hu (Radix Peucedani), Xing ren (Semen Armeniacae)

For cough with thick yellow mucus, add Huang qin (Radix Scutellariae), zhi mu gua lou pi

For epidemic heat-toxin, add da qing ye, pu gong ying.

For Lung heat, add Shi gao (Gypsum)
