Cough

Pattern: Invasion of Lung by wind heat

Key symptoms: Cough with scratchy throat and thin white phlegm, aversion to cold. Headache, stuffy runny nose. Thin white coating, floating taut pulse. 
Cough with heavy breathing and yellow sticky sputum, perspiration, sore throat, thirst, Thin yellow coating, floating rapid or slippery pulse.

Formula: Sang Ju Yin [Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction]

Treatment method: Dispel wind-heat, diffuse the Lung, relieve coughing

Acupuncture: UB13 fei shu, Lung-5 chi ce, Large Intestine-11 qu chi, DU14, da zhui

Formula Ingredients: Sang ye (Folium Mori), Ju hua (Flos chrysanthemi), Lian qiao (Fructus Forsythia), Lu gen, Xing ren (Semen Armeniacae), Jie geng (Radix Platycodi), Bo he (Herba Menthae), Gan cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae).

Modifications: To increase effects of ventilating the Lung and dispelling wind-heat, add Qian hu (Radix Peucedani), Niu bang zi (Fructus Arctii)

For exuberant heat, add Huang qin (Radix Scutellariae), Zhi mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae)

For sore throat and hoarseness, add she gan, Chi shao yao (Radix Paeoniae rubrae)

For heat injuring Lung Yin, add bei mu, Tian hua fen (Radix Trichosanthis)For summerheat: add Hua shi (Talcum), he ye.
