Dang Gui - Chinese angelica root (Radix Angelicae sinensis)

Properties: Warm, Acrid, Sweet. Channels: Liver, Heart, Spleen

Action and indication: Tonifies blood, regulates menses: all bl deficiency excess, especially GYN.  (Si Wu Tang) 

Bl stasis pain, especially with deficiency Cold or bl deficiency.  (Wen Jing Tang)

Dry stools due to bl deficiency.       

Reduces swelling, generates flesh: sores, abcesses.

Caution: diarrhea due to damp. Contraindicated: Yin deficiency heat.

Head - Dang gui Tou: best to tonify.

Tail - Dang gui wei (Radicis Extremitas Angelicae sinensis): best to move.

Body - Dang gui Shen: more tonifying than moving.

Dose: 3-15 g
