Esophageal Constriction

Pattern: Blood stasis

Key symptoms: Spasmodic pain of fixed location in the chest, inability to swallow solid foods and difficulty in swallowing liquids. Vomiting of dark red liquids in some cases. Emaciation, dry skin. Dry dark, purplish tongue, rough thready pulse. 

Formula: Qi ge san with Tao hong Yin (Persica and Carthamus Beverage)

Treatment method: Nourish Yin, moisten dryness, move static blood, break masses

Acupuncture: Ren22 tian tu, Ren17 tan zhong, Ren13 shang wan, Pericardium-6 nei guan, ST36 zu san li, UB17 ge shu

Formula Ingredients:

Qi ge san: Bei sha shen (Radix Glehniae), Dan shen (Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae), Fu ling (Poria), yu jin, Chuan bei mu (Bulbus fritillariae cirrhosae), sha ren ke, he ye di, mi pi kang

Tao hong Yin: Tao ren (Semen Persicae), Hong hua (Flos Carthami), Chuan xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Dang gui wei (Radicis Extremitas Angelicae sinensis), Wei ling xian (Radix Clematidis)

Modifications: For severe case, add san Qi, Chi shao yao (Radix Paeoniae rubrae), hai zao, kun bu, Gua lou (Fructus Trichosanthis)
