Esophageal Constriction

Pattern: Congestion of Qi and phlegm.

Key symptoms: Sensation of obstruction in the throat when swallowing, fullness and oppression in the chest and diaphragm, minor relief of symptoms when in a favorable emotional state. Sticky tongue coating, wiry slippery pulse. 

Formula:

Qi ge san: 

Treatment method: Rectify Qi, transform phlegm, resolve depression.

Acupuncture: Ren22 tian tu, Ren17 tan zhong, Ren13 shang wan, Pericardium-6 nei guan, ST36 zu san li, UB21 wei shu

Formula Ingredients: Qi ge san: Bei sha shen (Radix Glehniae), Dan shen (Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae), Fu ling (Poria), yu jin, Chuan bei mu (Bulbus fritillariae cirrhosae), sha ren ke, he ye di, mi pi kang.

Modifications:

To reinforce the effect, add Gua lou (Fructus Trichosanthis), Chen pi (Pericarpium Citri reticulatae), Dan xing (Rhizoma Arisaematis cum Felle Bovis), xuan fu hua, dai zhe shi

For injury to fluids, add zeng ye tang: Xuan shen (Radix Scrophulariae), Mai men dong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Sheng di huang (Radix Rehmanniae)
