Modified Polygonatum Odoratum Decoction (jia jian wei rui tang)
Chief: Yu zhu (Rhizoma Polygonati odorati) nourishes the Yin of the Lung and Stomach, clears heat, and generates the fluids.
Deputy: Cong bai (Bulbus Allii Fistulosi), Dan dou chi (Semen Sojae Preparatum) and Bo he (Herba Menthae) release exterior and dispel wind heat.
Assistant: Bai wei (Radix Cynanchi) cools the blood and clears heat without injuring Yin and Jie geng (Radix Platycodi) disseminates the Lung Qi to stop cough and expel phlegm.
Envoy: Gan cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) and Da zao (Fructus Jujubae) assist the Chief herb in moistening dryness and harmonizing the actions of the other ingredients.
Pattern: Wind-Heat with Yin-Blood Deficieny.
Indications: Fever and slight chills, little or no sweating, headache, dry throat, cough, sputum which is difficult to expectorate, thirst, irritability, a dark-red tongue, and a rapid pulse.
Internal Medicine: Used for Common cold. Colds in cases of Yin vacuity.
