Mai Men Dong - Ophiopogon root (Radix Ophiopogonis)

Properties: sligthly Cold, sligthly Bitter, Sweet. Channels: Heart, Lung, Stomach

Action and indication: Moistens Lung, stops cough: dry mouth, thick sputum, bloody sputum due to damaged Yin.  (Sheng Mai San, Sha Shen Mai Men Dong Tang)               

Supplements Stomach Yin, generates fluids: dry mouth and tongue.  (Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang, Yu Nu Jian)                  

Clears Heart: irritability due to Heart Yin deficiency. (Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan)

Moistens intestines.

Contraindicated: fluid congestion, deficiency Cold diarrhea. Antagonizes Kuan dong hua, Ku shen, Bai mu er.

Wine-fry to reduce Cold properties in tonic formulas.

Dose: 6-15 g
