Four-Valiant Decoction for Well-Being (si miao yong an tang)

Ingredients: 

Chief: Flos Lonicerae Japonicae (jin yin hua)

Deputy: Radix Scrophulariae Ningpoensis (xuan shen)

Assistant: Radix Angelicae Sinensis (dang gui)

Envoy: Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (gan cao)

Pattern: Fire toxin leading to stasis of blood in the sinews and blood vessels.

Indication: Ulcerated sores that wont heal on a limb that is dark red, slightly swollen, warm to the touch  the touch, and extremely painful (This is called sloughing ulcer (tuo ji).

​​Contraindicated in cases with cold, qi deficiency, or blood deficiency.

Commentary: With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating such biomedically-defined disorders as thromboangiitis obliterans, other disorders with thrombosis in the limbs, and gangrene (in conjunction with surgery).
