Pattern: Vacuity cold of Spleen and Stomach
Key symptoms: Dull indistinct epigastric pain, decrease in pressure or Warmth, regurgitation of clear fluids, reduced food intake, fatigue, cold extremities, loose stool. Pale tongue white coating, slow and weak pulse.
Formula: Huang qi jian zhong tang [Astragalus Decoction to Construct the Middle]
Treatment method: Warm and supplement the Spleen and Stomach, relieve pain
Acupuncture: UB20 pi shu, UB21 wei shu, Ren12 zhong wan, ST36 zu san li, Ren6 Qi hai, Pericardium-6 nei guan, SP4 gong sun
Formula Ingredients: Huang qi jian zhong tang: Huang qi (Radix Astragali), Bai shao yao (Paeoniae radix lactiflora), Gui zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Zhi gan cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae preparata), Sheng jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis recens), Da zao (Fructus Jujubae), yi tang.
Modifications:
For regurgitation of relatively large amount of clear fluids, add Gan jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis), Chen pi (Pericarpium Citri reticulatae), Ban xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Fu ling (Poria)
For poor food intake, eructation of foul gas and thick slimy tongue coating, add Zhi shi (Fructus Aurantii immaturus), Hou po (Cortex Magnoliae officinalis), shen qu, mai ya
For vacuity-cold of the Spleen and Stomach with failure of the Spleen to secure the blood, use huang tu tang
For cold is severe with acute pain and cold extremities, use da jian zhong tang
For loose stools, use fu zi li zhong wan
After alleviating of Stomach pain, use xiang sha liu jun zi tang
